How can I stop coughing?

I've been coughing because of post-nasal drip because I've had a cold for over a week. My husband keeps me up late watching movies in bed so I can't get proper rest. Tonight my cough kept me awake and then woke him up and he whined at me right before telling me to go sleep on the couch (our tiny love seat couch) because HE needed his precious sleep. How can I stop coughing so I can go to bed? I'm sooo tired....
Answer:
What you have to understand is that the coughing is simply a response to the post nasal drip. In order to cure the cough you have to cure the nasal drip issue. Sometimes this is caused by a virus and it can be nearly impossible to get it to stop. And it can, at times, take weeks to get it to clear up completely.
With that said, you should start with something like Claritin or the generic version. If this doesn't do it for you, try others like sudafed or actifed, even benedryl, but it will make you considerably more drowsy.
All of those work wonders for a standard runny nose but this post nasal drip issue is a bit different and its difficult to deal with.
Menthol or rubs will do absolutely nothing medically for you. Sure, it "feels" cool when you breathe it, but it doesn't do anything for your nose or anything else. As far as steamers or misters, well, unless you just need more humidity they won't do much for you either.
Stick to the anti-histimines and try to find one that helps you. You might have to try a couple or even combine a couple. In the end you may just have to wait it out.
And tell your husband to get a grip. No offense, but he needs a dose of "who the he.. are you",
You should buy some Vicks Vapor Rub, it's amazing, I just got over my worst cold yet (I lost my voice and everything) in 3 days by using it.Also blow your nose alot, when you wake up coughing blow your nose and drink some water, it helped me alot.On the other hand, tell your husband that if he needs to sleep so much he should sleep on the couch. =)How rude, lol. Your sick, he should be comforting you.
Get some cough syrup, just make sure it's the right kind (some kinds can make it worse). You can ask the pharmacist about it.
try using an anti histamine to dry you up.
visit a doctor to make sure that it is just a drip and not a more serious infectious cough.
Why not consult a doctor?
take some niquil or sleep aid. also try taking a warm bath before you go to sleep. when u get out dry urself and put some vicks rub on ur chest. also drink warm liquids b4 you go to sleep. like tea. good luck
Kick him in the balls and tell him to quit whining about the pain. It won't help your cough but it'll shut the inconsiderate bastard up. Tomorrow, get some Delsyum (over the counter) cough medicine.
drink alot of laxative....then you'll be afraid to cough. =)
Try a nice soothing tea. If that doesn't work or you do not like tea try some throat spray before you go to bed. You can pick it up at your local Walmart of Walgreens.
It s hard but i would recommand you to take thera flu it s a liquid you put in the cup after you broil hot water and pure it in the cup. and cough drop i got the same thing as you and i take a lot of rest that would cure it a little faster.
if u could trust this just try 3 days u will feel perfect............drink honey in hotwater before u go to sleep and when u wokeup.........apply good quantity of vicks vaporup on ur chest throat and back, wear some tight T Shirt and avoid urself from any kind of breeze just go in blanket and sleep all night well..........if u dont have allergy u must try vicks steam....if u hve allergy simply try steam without vicks....inhale from Nose and throwout from mouth......Good Luck never allow cough to prolong its some thing very very dangerous.
Try running a cool mist humidifier in your bedroom while you sleep. An tussin Cf cough syrup is awesome. But look around you room make sure nothing is dusty because dust can make you cough as well as well as feather pillows.Hope you feel better:)
