How can I be sure that i don't have Osteoporosis?

My mother who is 80 has broken her bones in several places.She must have osteoporosis.I don't think there is a clinic that measures bone density where I live.

Even if you have osteoporosis, there are many ways to treat it that DO NOT involve the expensive drugs the pharmaceutical companies and doctors are pushing on us now. These drugs have NOT been around very long, and some of them have some nasty side effects. Check with your doctor about a bone screening, although this is hardly the last word on diagnosis. For anyone with a memory, osteoporosis used to be a normal part of aging. Now, doctors make it sound like a death sentence. It is NOT. And it does NOT mean you will break a bone or a hip. Being unsteady on your feet, having poor balance, poor vision, and having other things (slippery floors, throw rugs) are things you should avoid. Take care of your health. Be as strong as you can be. Do not be fearful even if you do have osteoporosis.Please research the treatment (if you need it) before you decide it's the best thing for you. Informing yourself is the best thing you can do.

If you are around menopause or over, you can pretty much bet that you have it. I take Fosamax and have never actually been tested for bone density. There is usually no need, just a way of doctors making money. All older women probably need medication.If you dont' have insurance, here is a reliable pharmacy:

I'm sure your doctor could order a bone density test for you. It only takes a few minutes and can be done at bone clinics or hospitals. I'm having one done in two days. We don't need broken bones!

There is a test called a bone densitometry which you can have (performed by Radiologists) which will measure the density of your bones and determine if you have osteoporosis or are at high risk for fracture.
